A Plea

I don't know what is going on with us being at the scene of accidents lately, but we were there for another one today. We were on our way home from lunch at mom's, and I saw the most awful scene. The first thing was a motorcycle in the left hand lane of US-1 laying on it's side, and then I saw the driver laying in the middle lane. I saw him before Bobby and all I could say was, "Oh my gosh, Oh my gosh.." over and over again. What a horrible sight. It had just happened, so Bobby jumped out of our car along with an EMT that just happened to be behind us and I stayed at the car to watch Thomas and the EMT's little girl. Thankfully, the guy is going to be ok, but he was bleeding profusly from his head. You guessed it... he wasn't wearing a helmet... UGH! So, without getting too graphic, please, please, please if you are a motorcyclist, wear your helmet! Or, if you know one- encourage them to wear their's. One of the first things I thought of is my Harley-riding brother-in-law, Chris, and I am so thankful that he wears his helmet!

Silly Nanny...

Our friend, Preston, is letting Thomas use his Police motorcycle, but Thomas isn't so sure about it yet. That siren noise it makes is quite concerning to Thomas. He will study the 6 or so buttons on the "dashboard" as if to make sure that he doesn't push THAT button... or maybe is is trying to muster up his nerve... hmmm. Anyway, accident or not, when he does push THAT button, he... steps away from the motorcycle very slowly- walking backwards- with his hands tucked safely behind his back! So adorable! He is over it in a few minutes and goes back to studying those darn buttons again. He still won't ride it, but here is Nanny trying to convince him that it is fun... too funny!

See the hands behind his back? Nanny pushed THAT button while she was trying to get off!

Too cute not too post. Thomas was worn slap out on our way home....

Playtime with Gina...

This was from a few weeks ago, but I just had to share! Gina (Thomas' great-grandma) use to not even let people sit on her bed, but here is Thomas... playing away on it! Thomas came to wake her up from her nap and then they played forever...

Mother of the Year!

Sorry, Kris- I won the Mother of the Year award today... twice actually. Not to worry, I am sure it will be your turn again sometime soon. We do seem to pass that award back and forth, huh?

So, today Thomas and I were going to stay in except for a quick trip to the bank. He woke up from his nap at 1:30, so I just took him straight from the changing table to the carseat so that I could get there before 2. On the way, we witnessed a car accident that resulted in a pregnant woman being taken to the hospital by ambulance. I am pretty sure she is going to be ok, but she was high risk to begin with, she has been through a lot already, and she hit this guy really hard. So, I stayed with her to try and keep her calm and to give the police my statement. (The guy that pulled out in front of her was being a real jerk) I wasn't sure what to do when the ambulance went away because she didn't ask me to help her in any way. After I gave the police my statement, I went on to the bank, and heard the song "Give Me Your Eyes" by Brandon Heath on WMHK. Hearing that in combination with just happening to overhear what hospital they were taking her to, I decided to stop by the hospital. By that time I figured her husband was going to be there, but I just wanted to make sure that she wasn't still alone. At the scene of the accident she just kept saying," I just need to hear my baby's heartbeat" over and over again. Who could walk away from that? Unfortunately for her, she was still by herself when I got to the hospital, but she was genuinely excited to see me. I left when a family member got there, but I think that everything was going to be just fine. Please say a quick prayer for her though, she has been through a lot before the accident even happened as far as the pregnancy goes.

Getting at my first award though, my poor little guy didn't get to eat lunch until almost 4 because of all of that. He was so good though! So, my first award was that he ate a McDonald's cheeseburger for lunch at 4 because I needed to run into Walmart to pick up a few things. Bad mommy, right? I could feel the stares from the people in Walmart as Thomas was happily chowing down on his cheeseburger! ha ha

The second Mommy of the Year award happened this afternoon coming home from the Fresh Market. That is one of my favorite stores and I always find new and interesting items there. I picked us up a bottle of wine to open with dinner tonight, and a few cases down they had these cute bottles of what I thought was flavored sparkling water. So, I found me one that was pomegranate (yum!) and bought it. I opened it in the parking lot and took a few big sips as I was going down Trenholm only to taste something a little different in it. Yep- you guessed it! It was a wine cooler that I was drinking while driving with Thomas in the backseat! I could have crawled under the seat I was so mortified!

I am sure that I will win more awards of that nature as I mother Thomas, but two in one day? Sheesh!

Here is a little bit from that song...

Give me your eyes for just one second
Give me your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me your love for humanity
Give me your arms for the broken hearted

Washed by the water...

So, today I was rocking out in the car to a great song on WMHK... Washed By The Water by Need to Breathe.

"Even when the rain falls
Even when the flood starts rising
Even when the storm comes
I am washed by the water"

It has a really catchy beat and I really love the words. I look back while we are sitting at a stop light and Thomas is dying laughing at me!

I know I am no Celine or Faith, but come on! Oh well- I kept on singing!

I don't work for them... I work for Him!

When you have 5 minutes to watch this video, please do. It is incredible and it gave me chills. This really encouraged me this morning and put a lot of things in perspective...

Comforter

I don't have any pics of this special moment, but I did have to share....

Bobby was late getting home tonight, so I put Thomas to bed by myself. I will post more about our evening later, but I just wanted to put it out there that Thomas, Josh, and I were home alone. Once I didn't here anymore out of Thomas' room, I decided to take me a nice, long, hot shower. Thomas never wakes up once he goes night-night, right?

Who knows if it was gas, a bad dream, or him feeding off of my uneasiness of being home without Bobby after dark... but whatever it was, he woke up! Just after I was all soaped up and had shampoo in my hair, of course! So, I rinsed off myself and my hair, dried, and halfway dressed and made it to his room as quickly as I could. When I first heard him he was in the "sleepy whine", but by the time I made it to his room, it was game-on! Poor guy was a mess. I picked him up, grabbed his favorite blanket and a paci, sat down in the rocking chair, and he completely melted in my arms. What completely amazes me is that he went from hysterical to comfortably asleep in my arms in a matter of about 30 seconds.

How is it that I can comfort someone this much? I am a 28 year old that is still scared of the dark, and I can comfort my son from something that had him so upset just by wrapping my arms around him. I felt like I could have rocked him all night long- it was such a sweet moment. Finally I did lay him back in his crib and rubbed his back until he settled in a comfortable position and there wasn't so much as a whimper.

Perfection... he is just perfection!

Psalm 119:76 "Now let your unfailing love comfort me..."

Blueberries

So, let's just begin this saying that I do not like blueberries- AT ALL! But, I get it... blueberries are the "miracle berries", full of good stuff, great for your skin/brain/etc. I get it, OK? So, I try them every now and again to see if my tastes have changed, but alas- I don't like them still. I haven't bought them in a while, but I am really trying to set a good example for Thomas. So, today at The Fresh Market, I bought some blueberries once again!
When we got home, I fixed us some vanilla yogurt with a banana, grapes, and the blueberries. I gave Thomas his first blueberry ever and he made an awful face and spit it out on my kitchen floor. He never rejects anything! Then the dog came over when he saw that something was on the floor and he wouldn't even eat it! I have seen this dog eat some really disgusting things and he wouldn't eat the blueberry... ha ha! I put a blueberry in my mouth- again to set a good example, but I couldn't help it. I made a bad face too. Thomas just started giggling as if to say, "...told you so, mom!"
So, am I now excused from blueberries since myself nor my boys like them? I paid entirely too much for something that I don't even like... crazy- I know! I wish Kris were here... she likes blueberries!

A busy week...

I have felt a little lost this week being so behind on my posts... I promise I will try and do better. Monday was Labor Day and we relaxed at home during the day, and then went to my parent's house that evening to grill steaks and swim. Well, Thomas and my dad swam... the pool was too chilly for me and mom! Tuesday, Thomas had his first dentist appointment! He was so great and the dentist said his teeth look great. We went to Dr. Cross in Lexington who was my dentist when I was growing up. It was really special for him to go to my same dentist, and I was so excited to find that Dr. Cross was still practicing in the area! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a picture of them, but Dr. Cross just hugged and kissed all over him and made him feel really comfortable. I look forward to Thomas being able to be just at ease with going to the dentist's office as I was as a kid. After the dentist, we went and hung out with Papa for a little while before we came home...

Thomas and Papa went for a walk- I love this picture!

Wednesday, we went out to lunch with my friend, Paula. She is always so sweet to take time out of her busy schedule to have lunch with us and was so thoughtful to bring Thomas a present- his own plate! She knew he loves trucks! Paula and I have been friends for quite a while and she has been there for me through several major events in my life. We always have a great time at our "not often enough lunch dates"! I love you Paula and I am already looking forward to our next lunch at Applebee's!

Thursday, Thomas and I ran some errands and then went to visit my dad after he had an outpatient procedure that morning. We came home, Thomas took a nap, and then Bobby and I took Thomas to my parent's house to spend the night. Bobby took me to Macaroni Grill (my favorite) and then we ran a couple of errands ourselves. One of the errands was to Babies R Us to buy those doorknobs that the kiddos can't open themselves after Thomas opened the door to the basement the night before and I almost had a heart attack right there!

So, we had a busy week, but it was really good. All of that on top of trying feverishly to get the house cleaned out because we are fixing to put it up for sale... YEAH! Bobby has already talked to a local real estate agent, but I still have a ton of work to do to get it ready to be shown. Bobby has 3 business trips scheduled for the next month or so, so I am planning on getting some of it done then. I have had a few panicky moments about all the work that has to be done and for various elements (what to do with the dog, for one!), but it will all work out, I am sure. We are not in any hurry, luckily, so what happens, happens.

This post became a lot longer than I had intended, but I just to document another great week! Love you all, and I hope your week was fabulous as well!

16 MONTHS!!!

What a different boy my guy is at 16 months than even at 15 months! He is talking like crazy, although we can only understand a couple of words! He is such a hoot and he knows it! He will just be jabbering away, and then he will stop and chuckle a little, and then he goes on with the gibberish again.. so cute. Have I mentioned that I L.O.V.E. this guy? I have to admit that sometimes I remember the baby that I would put down somewhere, and 10 minutes later he would still be in the same place, but I do love, love, love this walking (well, running) thing. I loved the baby stage, and I thought that the fun would be over after that went away, but I see now that it has just begun. One of the times that I missed the baby stage was tonight when I was picking up the better part of 20 pounds of dog food out of Bobby's closet. How did the trash can that I keep in the pantry end up in Bobby's closet, you ask? Well, my little dude that loves to push ANYTHING across the floor went in the the pantry (the no-no room) and pushed the trash can of Josh's food out of the pantry, through the kitchen, through the dining room, down the very long hallway, into our room, and into Bobby's closet where it promptly turned over and the top popped off... nice! That's ok- he helped me pick it up! Some facts about my guy:

He still prefers to be outside than anywhere else on earth.

He loves, loves, loves to be chased... through the house, outside, across the wooden bridge at the zoo, etc!

He loves Josh (our furry boy) even though I am not sure that the feeling is reciprocated!

He still sleeps around 16 hours a day (if I only got half of that I would be close to heaven).

I call him my little stealer! He walks through the house and "collects " (aka steals) items and puts them in his truck. The other day he had one of daddy's shoes, a cocktail purse of mine, a book that I had in my "sale" pile, and my tube of mascara in his truck! What a sweetie! Even my mom says that whenever she can't find something, she goes looking in his truck!

There are a ton more, but those are the highlights for now...

This is Thomas after he and I shared some sugar-free chocolate pudding!

Daddy reading Thomas a book....
Walking in front of Papa and Nanny's house...

My handsome boy pushing his truck around... see, his loot has already started!
Cooling off, shirtless, after playing outside tonight...!

He must be sucking in his belly in this picture... it is usually hanging over his pants!

Thomas and I were a little frustrated with each other tonight. He was tired.... I was tired... not a good combination, right? He fussed at me when I told him we were going to get a bath and then I didn't immediately put him in the tub (gotta run the water first!), he wouldn't open up his mouth much for me to brush his teeth... ugh! But after I got him in bed and looked at these new pictures, I felt all better. I even went back in his room, got him out of his crib, and rocked him to sleep...

Another favorite activity (hairdo courtasy of mommy!)

Escape baby! I love it!

And I LOVE him!

This is from a previous post when he was 13 months old, but I was feeling it tonight. I hope Thomas will read this one day and know how much love I have in my heart for him. I love you, Thomas, more than the sun and the moon and the stars...

From 6/17/08:

"I usually write from Thomas' voice (since this is his website after all!), but tonight I just knew that I had to include this page. I was led to a blog tonight of a little boy that just lost his battle with a life-threatening illness that took him to Heaven at only 56 days old. That was sad enough, but then there was a link to MANY other blogs that the family was networking with that their children had the same rare disease. Some never made it into this world alive, and the oldest one that I read made it to 14 months old before she passed away. I was overwhelmed with what an incredible miracle Thomas is. As I was reading the blogs and crying my eyes out, I kept going into Thomas' room and watching him. I caught these precious 2 pictures of my Thomas while he slept- no care in the world. I could write all day, but I thank the Maker of Heaven and of Earth every day for giving me such a vibrant, healthy, happy, mellow, sweet, cuddly, spunky, imaginative, sneaky, adored, playful, handsome, silly, talkative, smart, surprising, mischievous, easy-going, luminous, impatient, jolly, inquisitive, hungry, giggly, flirty, energetic, determined, curious, bouncy, animated, adventurous little guy! I thank God for all 410 days, 19 hours, and 13 minutes I have had with my precious Thomas Levi Scott. Ok- my message is over, and from now on I will try to just let Thomas do the talking. Thanks for indulging me... Becky (Thomas' proud mommy!)"
